Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to recognise your device across requests and sessions. Cookies can be "session" cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (stored for a defined period or until you delete them).
Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which store data directly in your browser. This policy covers all such technologies.
2. Our Approach to Cookies
BeQuery has a minimal cookie footprint. We use only what is strictly necessary to operate the platform:
- ✓We use essential authentication cookies (required for the platform to function)
- ✓We use functional cookies for user preferences (e.g., theme selection)
- ✕We do not use tracking or advertising cookies
- ✕We do not use analytics cookies from third parties (e.g., Google Analytics)
- ✕We do not sell or share cookie data with advertisers
3. Cookies We Use
Essential Cookies
These cookies are required for the platform to function. You cannot opt out of these while using BeQuery. Without them, you cannot log in or maintain a session.
| Cookie name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-*-auth-token | Supabase | Stores your authentication session token. Required to keep you logged in. | 1 week (session token), refreshed on activity |
| sb-*-auth-token-code-verifier | Supabase | PKCE code verifier used during the OAuth/email authentication flow. | Session (deleted after login completes) |
The exact cookie name includes your Supabase project reference (e.g., sb-abcdefgh-auth-token). This is set by Supabase's authentication library and is necessary for secure session management.
Functional Cookies
These cookies remember your preferences to improve your experience. You can disable them, though doing so may affect platform appearance.
| Storage key | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| theme | Local storage | Stores your dark/light mode preference so it persists across visits. | Persistent (until cleared) |
4. What We Do Not Use
To be explicit, BeQuery does not use:
- ✕Google Analytics or similar third-party analytics platforms
- ✕Facebook Pixel or social media tracking pixels
- ✕Advertising or remarketing cookies
- ✕Cross-site tracking technologies
- ✕Fingerprinting or device identification techniques
5. Third-Party Cookies
Supabase Auth may set cookies as part of the authentication process. These are first-party cookies (set on the BeQuery domain) but managed by Supabase's client library. They are strictly necessary for authentication and session management.
Vercel, our hosting provider, may process request metadata (including IP addresses) for DDoS protection and performance. This does not involve cookies on your device.
6. Managing Cookies
Because we use only essential and functional cookies, there is no cookie consent banner — essential cookies cannot be disabled without breaking the service.
You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings:
Google Chrome
Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies
Mozilla Firefox
Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies
Safari
Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
Microsoft Edge
Settings → Privacy → Cookies and site data
Note: deleting authentication cookies will log you out of BeQuery. You will need to sign in again to use the platform.
To clear local storage (for the theme preference), open your browser's developer tools (F12), go to Application → Local Storage, and delete the theme key.
7. Legal Basis
Under EU law (ePrivacy Directive and GDPR), cookies that are strictly necessary for a service explicitly requested by the user do not require prior consent. Our essential authentication cookies fall into this category.
Functional cookies (theme preference) are stored in local storage and do not transmit data to any server. They affect only your own browser and device.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if we change the technologies we use. We will notify you of material changes through the platform or by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last revised.
